There is beauty in balance

April 21, 2014

All this talk about whitening may look like I want to wage war on all girls who ever purchased a bottle at their local department store, but that’s not the case. There’s nothing wrong with wanting slightly brighter, more luminescent skin, or with wanting a golden tan. Just make sure you don’t go overboard.

Sun-worshipping can cause your future-self to suffer a lot more than you realize. Too much sun exposure can lead not only to skin cancer, but also melasma, sun spots. and a whole lot of regret. And sure, picking up a whitening cream just to brighten those acne scars from high school isn’t a crime. But using harsh chemicals to bleach your skin until you look much lighter than your natural skin tone? It’s a dangerous game, so tread carefully.

Aside from the chemical dangers, taking up an intense skin whitening regimen does damage on the inside too. At the end of the day, that’s what I really care about. We women have enough to be insecure about as it is. The media bombards us with pictures of girls whose profession it is to radiate beauty, making us feel guilty for skipping the gym or having a little midnight snack. Long lashes, luscious hair, perfect skin, a tiny waist, mile-long legs, it can all be just too much. Adding milky white skin to the already kilometric list makes life too hard. And let’s face it, isn’t life hard enough?

On that note, remember to be kind to your body, and your soul. Find a little balance. Learn to embrace your own natural beauty. And remember, no matter what your foundation shade is, always wear sunscreen!

5 tips to wear red lips (the right way)
5 tips to wear red lips (the right way)

November 15, 2017

A lady can never have too many lipsticks, and a beautiful red is one of the first things a beauty junkie ever buys. It's deceptively simple to wear, but think of these few tips for your next holiday party and take your favorite red lipstick to the next level.

1. Matte and shimmer, made for each other.

The holidays tend to make us more heavy-handed with the glitter, but remember this: matte lips and shimmery cheeks, OR matte skin and glossy red lips. It's either one or the other, so don't overdo it!

2. Prep your canvas.

There's nothing worse than beautiful red lips and nothing else on the face. Red lipstick is a classic that demands respect, so at the very least, make sure to de-shine your skin and fill in your brows. It'll give you a more polished look.
